Energy is the ability of a process to do the job. This process can be an airplane, carrying hundreds of passengers across the ocean. The body of a infant, growing bone cells. A kite, the wind increased. Or a light wave passing by a space. In the movement or growth, each of these systems are doing the work, & use of energy. Every living organism has a job, & needs energy from food or photosynthesis. Humans also generate machines that work for them, & get energy from fuels. |

* The mechanical energy, which includes the potential energy stored in a process. The kinetic energy from the motion of matter.
* The solar radiant energy that comes from light and heat of the sun.
* The thermal energy associated with the heat of an object.
*The chemical energy stored in chemical bonds of molecules.
* Electricity, associated with the movement of electrons.
*The electromagnetic energy associated with light waves (including radio waves, microwaves, X rays, infrared waves).
* Mass (or nuclear) energy, found in nuclear structure of atoms. |

*Maximize daylight & turn off unnecessary office lights.
* Turn off office equipment such as printers, computers, fax machines & the coffee machine at night & when not in use. Adjust power management settings to activate the sleep mode during periods of inactivity.
* Keep windows & doors closed to prevent loss of chilled air. Adjust blinds & coverings on windows that get direct sunlight
*Plug all radios, cell phones & mp3 chargers, fans & other personal electronic equipment in a power strip that can be turned off when not in use. These devices draw energy 24 / 7, even when turned off.
* Dress comfortably for the weather. Adjust your layers before adjusting the thermostat. |
